In January each year, on one of our days out of the studio, we usually go to the Print Exhibition in Rheged. However this year it was Everest Revisited instead. Mountaineering isn’t something you could accuse us of doing, far too energetic, but we noticed they were going to show contemporary artists work from UK and Nepal and thought it may be worth a visit.
It was without doubt well worth going to, not just for the art, it was inspiring in many ways.
The Exhibition covered the disappearance of Irving and Mallory, plus other stories of men and women who risked their lives in their attempts of reaching the summit. We are amazed at what it actually takes to achieve this climb. The stamina, drive and focus of mountaineers eludes us, but it’s clear we need people like this in life. Their need to achieve and push the boundaries lead to new discoveries and technologies.
This may be a short piece but we wanted to let people know Everest Revisited is an excellent Exhibition, we came away inspired by the beauty of our planet, and little doubt nature is in charge, no matter how much we kid ourselves we are.
The Exhibition is on until Sunday the 16th of March and costs £5 for over 16's.
